The biological shelter is a system of protecting areas of the Binational Itaipu includes units of conservation, being four in Paraguay and two in Brazil, between which Beautiful Sight is the Biological Shelter.
One is about an area of permanent preservation, with objectives of protection to the flora and to the fauna, research, recovery of degraded areas, paisagismo, reproduction of animals, ambient education, production of changes and water supply for the city of Estuary of the Iguaçu.
The faunístico program was initiated in 1977, with the first inventory of the existing animals in the region that would be flooded, in the edges of the river Paraná. During the formation of the lake, in 1982, innumerable animals had been rescued, with the operation known for Mymba Kuera, being a part of the destined animals the institutions of research and others had been untied in biological reserves and shelters.
In 2002, the shelter passed for a revitalização, based on the concepts of green architecture and energy efficiency, transforming it into an instrument of ambient education and a tourist attraction. 23 new constructions destined had been enclosed to the most varied ends, as Center of Reception of Visitors, Center of Ambient Education and Tourism, beyond different tracks for visitation and appreciation. The stroll is carried through by means of reserve and is exempt of visitation tax.
